Handbook of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks for Mobility Models Overview

The Mobile Ad Hoc Network (MANET) has emerged as the next frontier for wireless communications networking in both the military and commercial arena. Handbook of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks for Mobility Models introduces 40 different major mobility models along with numerous associate mobility models to be used in a variety of MANET networking environments in the ground, air, space, and/or under water mobile vehicles and/or handheld devices. These vehicles include cars, armors, ships, under-sea vehicles, manned and unmanned airborne vehicles, spacecrafts and more. This handbook also describes how each mobility pattern affects the MANET performance from physical to application layer; such as throughput capacity, delay, jitter, packet loss and packet delivery ratio, longevity of route, route overhead, reliability, and survivability. Case studies, examples, and exercises are provided throughout the book.

Handbook of Mobile Ad Hoc Networks for Mobility Models is for advanced-level students and researchers concentrating on electrical engineering and computer science within wireless technology. Industry professionals working in the areas of mobile ad hoc networks, communications engineering, military establishments engaged in communications engineering, equipment manufacturers who are designing radios, mobile wireless routers, wireless local area networks, and mobile ad hoc network equipment will find this book useful as well.

Coordination Languages and Models: Second International Conference, COORDINATION'97, Berlin, Germany, September 1-3, 1997, Proceedings (Lecture Notes in Computer Science) Overview

This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the Second International Conference on Coordination Models and Languages, COORDINATION '97, held in Berlin, Germany, in September 1997. The 22 revised full papers and 6 posters presented in the book were carefully reviewed and selected from a total of 69 submissions. Also included are three invited papers. The papers are devoted to an emerging class of languages and models, which have been variously termed coordination languages, configuration languages, and architectural description languages. These formalisms provide a clean separation between software components and their interaction in the overall software organization, which is particularly important for large-scale applications and open systems.

The Complexity of Cooperation: Agent-Based Models of Competition and Collaboration Overview

Robert Axelrod is widely known for his groundbreaking work in game theory and complexity theory. He is a leader in applying computer modeling to social science problems. His book The Evolution of Cooperation has been hailed as a seminal contribution and has been translated into eight languages since its initial publication. The Complexity of Cooperation is a sequel to that landmark book. It collects seven essays, originally published in a broad range of journals, and adds an extensive new introduction to the collection, along with new prefaces to each essay and a useful new appendix of additional resources. Written in Axelrod's acclaimed, accessible style, this collection serves as an introductory text on complexity theory and computer modeling in the social sciences and as an overview of the current state of the art in the field.

The articles move beyond the basic paradigm of the Prisoner's Dilemma to study a rich set of issues, including how to cope with errors in perception or implementation, how norms emerge, and how new political actors and regions of shared culture can develop. They use the shared methodology of agent-based modeling, a powerful technique that specifies the rules of interaction between individuals and uses computer simulation to discover emergent properties of the social system. The Complexity of Cooperation is essential reading for all social scientists who are interested in issues of cooperation and complexity

Urban Stormwater Management Planning with Analytical Probabilistic Models Overview

Understanding how to properly manage urban stormwater is a critical concern to civil and environmental engineers the world over. Mismanagement of stormwater and urban runoff results in flooding, erosion, and water quality problems. In an effort to develop better management techniques, engineers have come to rely on computer simulation and advanced mathematical modeling techniques to help plan and predict water system performance. This important book outlines a new method that uses probability tools to model how stormwater behaves and interacts in a combined- or single-system municipal water system. Complete with sample problems and case studies illustrating how concepts really work, the book presents a cost-effective, easy-to-master approach to analytical modeling of stormwater management systems.

Simulating Organizations: Computational Models of Institutions and Groups

Discount Simulating Organizations: Computational Models of Institutions and Groups :>>> limited time offer!

Organizational modelling and simulation is a relatively new field and this might explain the fact that there aren't many books about the topic. This is why this is such an important book. Not only does this book tackle the topic of organizational modelling, but the the papers are of the highest qualities. Usually edited books are not as coherent as single author books, but in this case the fact that different chapters were written by different people is an advantage. Each chapter discusses a different modelling technique that is used to explain a different issue. This variety in methods makes the book an excellent reference. I would also recommend 'Dynamics of Organizations' which is also an edited book. However, if you planned to buy just one book, then Simulating Organizations is the one that I would recommend the most.

Simulating Organizations: Computational Models of Institutions and Groups Overview

The globalization of the economy, increasing number of transnational organizations, and rapid changes in robotics, information, and telecommunication technologies are just a few of the factors significantly altering organizational time scales, forms, complexity, and environments. Time scales have shrunk, new organizational forms are emerging, and organizational environments are expanding and mutating at unprecedented rates. Computational modeling affords opportunities to both understand and respond to these complex changes. Paralleling developments in the physical sciences, computational modeling is emerging in the social and organizational sciences. Organizational researchers are using computational models to gain insights into organizational phenomena and to explore dynamic processes and configurations that are difficult or impossible to investigate with other methods. Many interesting insights have already resulted from this research, such as how group cooperation arises or dissipates in social dilemma settings, and how honesty and benevolence affect behavior in a group task. On the practical side, computational modeling is increasingly effective for organizational design, analysis, and reengineering. Although a great deal of work remains to be done, the era is approaching when both theorists and practitioners will routinely state theories, design organizations, and derive their implications using widely shared computational tools. This volume brings together a range of work from many of the leading researchers in the field. Contributors: Mihai Barbuceanu, Richard Burton, Kathleen Carley, Keith Decker, Edmund Durfee, Mark S. Fox, Natalie Glance, Michael Gruninger, Bernardo Huberman, MinCheol Kang, David Kaplan, Zhiang Lin, Michael Prietula, Kent Sandoe, Walt Scacchi, Young-pa So, William Wallace, Laurie Weissel.

Biomechanical Models for Soft Tissue Simulation (ESPRIT Basic Research Series) Overview

The Esprit project CHARM has aimed at developing a comprehensive human resource database and a set of software tools allowing the modeling of the human musculoskeletal system and the simulation of its dynamics. This book gives an original synthesis on biomechanical modeling arising from the project. Biomechanical models of soft tissue involve different kinds of mathematical relationships, and their use requires basic knowledge of the theory of nonlinear mechanics as well as of incremental finite element methods. The book provides an overview of the available models, in the light of theoretical mechanics and finite element methods, for the realistic simulation of human muscles, tendons, and skin. It will be useful to any research team beginning such a modeling project.
